Kingman Korner: Put Your MONEY Where Your MOUTH Is

To put your money where your mouth is, an English idiomatic expression used to encourage people to do more than just talk about a problem. This phrase has become a familiar colloquialism in our country since about 1930.

I saw a remark someone made on social media that recently suggested the ire of the Kingman common man was going to turn some tables in 2026. I think we all agree now more than ever before, Kingman people must unite in purpose and resolve to vote out all incumbents.

The Kingman City Council and the Kingman City Manager are taking the Kingman people down a path of Route 66, with a greatly reduced quality of life for the average residents. As you may know, I have been very vocal for several years in my efforts to advance the true voice of the Kingman man on the street.

The people of Kingman have been shouting about uncontrolled growth on a frail, failing infrastructure, but their voices are blowing in the Kingman wind. The city council appears to be using every political trick in the book to manipulate the people, which I believe is an extremely unethical way to conduct business.

The critical issues and situations that shape OUR future are truly at peril. Water Sustainability is under threat as science reveals our dramatically dwindling aquifers. That does not appear to alarm city leaders, who know Kingman’s water and wastewater distribution systems spill and leak up to 22 million gallons a year. Our roads and traffic congestion couldn’t be much worse while the city raids the road maintenance fund for its massive pet projects, all the while raising the water, trash, and natural gas rates. When the people express their concerns, we get the threat of ongoing and higher sales taxes.

The city has proven that the hand is quicker than the eye, and instead of representing you, they are using every psychological trick and distraction in the book, including but not limited to expensive deceptive surveys, refusing a townhall meeting, and refusing to put citizens’ topics on the City Council’s Agenda. They have also proven that either they are deaf, OR they don’t care as much about you as they do about tourists, or creating gross urban density for the Kingman In-Crowd Profiteers.

I could mention many other inequities for the people. People diehard here in Kingman for lack of good medical providers, while the city is about to spend millions on the golf course.

Just when I thought the Economic Development Insanity couldn’t get much worse, the city just announced its newest and most costly scheme. They are going to build a huge Event Center up to 82,000 square feet and 35 feet tall at a projected cost of 53.5 million. The suggested locations could be the Fairgrounds, Centennial Park, or King Crossing. They don’t have the money for this, so guess what? They are going to put YOUR MONEY where THEIR mouth is. They are going to bill every Kingman Homeowner a projected 225 dollars a year extra for an undefined number of years, likely forever.

While the city distracts we the people with proposals for outrageous and ridiculous expenditures, such as a 25-foot Cowboy and changing the street name of Andy Devine, their plans to pick your pocket are much bigger. This is all being done under the authority of the newest General Plan from the last election cycle. As I told you when this illegitimate and illegal plan was allegedly passed, it is nothing more than a Trojan Horse and a General Scam. This plan passed under very questionable circumstances, and my formal request for a recount has been ignored. In addition, the city failed to comply with State Statutes when putting the General Plan on the ballot. My complaint with the AZ Attorney General and the AZ Secretary of State has been ignored. The days of putting SPECIAL INTEREST profits before the quality of life of the people must come to an end.

Every day that passes, the city of Kingman is taking us all deeper and deeper into debt, and the quality of our lives continues to quickly degrade. The average Kingman citizen is struggling to make ends meet, to find good jobs, and to find a good doctor and medical services.

I think you all get the picture and are not deceived by the shills and the cronies, We the people have to do more than just talk. Start now to prepare for turning out the vote on election day and voting out ALL incumbents who have proven they want to put YOUR money where THEIR mouth is. Chalew@gmail.com
